2025-04-05 02:37:31 +0000 UTCjolyne using her threads to have fire a few inches away from her body to stop the rods makes sense, but rikiel setting himself on fire was just hilarious.

2025-04-04 18:53:52 +0000 UTCSoo, Rods aren't actually Rikiels stand. It is implied that rods were always surrounding us, just that Rikiel could control him with the thingy on his arm. Rods were actually thought of new lifeforms, that were first discovered in the 90s by videocameras. The believe first was that the human eye just cant see them. In reality, rods were identified as images of flying insects recorded over several cycles of wing-beating on video recording devices. The insect captured on image a number of times, while propelling itself forward, gives the illusion of a single elongated rod-like body, with bulges. Basically motion blur and poor camera equipment led to these 'rods' appearing on photos. Araki really liked this idea, and then later added that they feed of body heat.

2025-04-04 18:02:15 +0000 UTCSkyfish are a cryptid that is pretty popular in Japan for some reason (I've seen it in like three series, completely unrelated) and they are usually visualised Like That. I think the implication is that they really exist and work by sapping body heat, and the guy's stand (the beetle-like thing on his arm) is to control them
