One Piece: Episode 26

Sanji and Zeff's backstory is....devastating

Comments

I have to agree that Zeff was and still is an actual beast of a person when he went to save lil' boi Sanji and during the time that they were both shipwrecked. When I first watched this episode, Sanji immediately went up to being my top favorite character out of the crew. Of course, it changed as I progressed through the series.

Awesome! 4-5 months is amazing when you finished Dressrosa already :D So happy OP is getting so much new fans. And I'm so hyped myself bc I started my re-watch when the LA came out bc it's been a while for me and I enjoy is so so much. It never gets old <3

Mone

Since I’m still watching I need to catch up, but when the OP remake happens, it will feel nostalgic to me. Heck looking back on these episodes still make me nostalgic even though i started 4-5 months ago.

I still need to catch up. Even though I started around 4-5 months ago and just finished Dressrosa, when I look at the older episodes, I feel nostalgic. That’s how good OP is.

I know, right? 😆😭 I 'grew up' with OP. I'm only missing the later episodes in the anime. This scene - and many more - will always be sad to me. There are so may episodes and scenes that make me cry like a baby 🥲🫠

Mone

If this made you sad, you haven’t seen anything yet. It gets much sadder in later arcs.

ITS SO BRUTAL! Oh wow I wonder if the new version they make of the east blue saga will follow the manga or they will stay with this version! Thanks for the info and for watching!

Georgie

Thank you for the explanation. Wow this world really IS brutal! Its crazy that historically I have know this show to be in the trifecta of like childhood anime - naruto, bleach and one piece (I watched naruto) and yet I think OP may be SO much more brutal than either of those shows ever were because of how realistic aspects of this show can be! thanks for watching! <3

Georgie

Oh this may be the saddest one, I genuinely teared up a few times just THINKING about these scenes after watching this. Such emotional impact and so well done! They really are ahh! I love OP its so just good, so glad im finally watching it! <3 and AWH THANK YOUU! <3

This episode/backstory scene ALWAYS manages to make me cry. No matter if it's the Anime, the Manga or the LA. Sanji is one of my absolute fav characters and I love him and Zeff so so much. Grumpy/big mouthed bastards they are 💖 I'm so so happy you enjoy OP so far~ I promise...it gets even better the more episodes you see 🤗 Also, love your new hairstyle 🥰

So here's a story to tell you. In manga Zeff lost his leg by another way in manga. When Sanji was drowning Zeff saved him and the waves threw them on a curved rock and some food with the treasures. Zeff gave all the food to Sanji and himself the bag filled with gold. By the waiting time Zeff have no food so the only remaining option for him was to smash his leg and eat it. Animators thought that would be way more brutal to a tv show so that's what they've changed in th anime. And by losing his leg therefor Zeff couldn't called as infamous Red footed. So he gave his dream to live in a younger boy Sanji whom he saved and chased another dream which he surely did achieve by creating a restaurant in the middle of the sea. I freaking love this show and your reactions thank you.

Just so you know. The manga is even more brutal. In the manga, Zeff severed his right leg with a jagged rock and used it as food. The manga's depiction of Zeff severing and auto-cannibalizing his leg were deemed too shocking for television broadcast, and thus changed for the anime. When these events were retold for the Episode of East Blue special, the anime-original scenes were excluded, implying that Zeff had, in fact, eaten his leg.
