There's not really a way I can see this happening without either the use of magic to perhaps cloud how people see her, or through some really expert political maneuvering, neither of which are skills we have seen from Laura as of yet. <br>(granted this is just a sketch so the reality of the comic doesn't really matter, but still fun to think About)

Heh, maybe in this alternate universe Evil!Trace fell in love-at-first-sight when he rescued Laura and now she sometimes stands in for him at meetings, like Lucretia did for her father in the mentioned painting.
