"Dancing bears, painted wings Things I almost remember And a song someone sings Once upon a December." As she makes her way to the center of the room, ghostly figures materialize, waltzing through shadow across the marble floor. She sings louder. "Someone holds me safe and warm Horses prance through a silver storm Figures dancing gracefully Across my memory." The figures dance faster as the lamps and chandeliers spring to light throughout the room. With the shadow dispelled, the dancers are revealed. Keith and his new friends dance and laugh together through a long winter's night. They seem entirely unaware of Laura's presence among them. Hugging her arms around herself and spinning, Laura sings even louder, her voice echoing through the room. "Long ago, far away Burning dim as an ember Things my heart used to know Things it yearns to remember And a song someone sings-" Keith approaches her and her voice catches in her throat. He is smiling at her, his eyes warm and bright. He holds out his hand in offer. She reaches for him, but someone else takes the hand before she can. She watches as Natani steps through her own faint form, smiling back at Keith as they move once more to the center of the floor. With a pang, Laura realizes that Keith looks as happy as she has ever seen him. She smiles, even as she feels a tear beginning to streak its way through the fur of her cheek, and turns to leave. The final notes of her song float through the air as she fades into the night. "Once upon... a December."
