I like FreeFall. The art style is more Newspaper Comic, though, instead of Tom's animesque illustrations. And it works, when you see it in that light (And update frequency). The cast is pretty great, IMO. At least Florence, Winston, the more regular robots (Sawtooth Rivergrinder, Querty, Dvorak, Edge, and Blunt), and even the mayor has great stuff going on. Sam Starfall is... weird. But also pretty great for the gags. I love how Ishiguro is a geek who really seems to dig the "Corrupt Corporate Executive"/Villainous posturing he gets to do, without actually being a bad guy. In fact, all the antagonists are pretty great. Only the dude named after a mite and Mr. Kornada are 'flat' characters. But what I really love about Freefall is how it handles the inhumanity of the non-human characters (Though some of it gets cringey, due to one of the comic's Big Problems), and tries to explore what it means to be a non-human sapience - Especially in the case of the robots, where they are both person and programmable machine. All the gushing about Freefall aside - I think it has a few big problems: 1. Contemporary culture references. These really date the comic, and take away from the sense of it being hundreds of years in the future. But, some jokes age better than others (Though I really cringed at the 15-years-too-late Leeroy Jenkins joke.) 2. Contemporary technology. Especially given how much modern tech has advanced since the comic started. This often ties into issue 1 as well. 3. 3rd Panel Gag. Every strip tries to end on a funny note - but in situations where humor isn't really warranted, it comes in the form of forced snark (Either thought, or in awkward dialogue), which really isn't all that funny, detracts from the mood of the comic, and wrecks the pacing by generally rendering 33% of the comic's space useless in an extended arc. 4. Really Awkward Author On Board segments. Mark Stanley's gotten much better about not delving into these, where situations are created that only work because they have to work because that's how the Author thinks the world works/should work.

Art quality? Tom wins, hands down. But story wise... I mean, don't get me wrong, the Twokinds story line is pretty cool, but...daaaaaaaaang. Maybe I'm just a geek, but I found this one impossible to put down. Once you get past the sam-is-doing-dumb-stuff-again-ha-ha and the thinly-veiled political commentary and cynicism, it actually gets pretty darn good. Try starting <a href="http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff1600/fc01551.htm" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">here</a>, this is where the major story arc starts, so it gets WAY more interesting almost immediately. Also it looks way better in color. (Oh, sorry, forgot to mention that technically speaking Florence is an AI. And I swear it's not yet another technically incorrect science fiction comic. It's perfectly technically correct, and I should know, I'm a computer scientist - but at times it does get a bit weird. And geeky. Which is probably why I'm so obsessed with it. :P )

Florence Ambrose is a female. Her body design was based on an actual female Earth wolf so no, she does not have large human styled breasts. If she were to get pregnant with a litter of pups her eight nipples (never shown but implied by censor bars) would probably get a little larger while lactating but nothing even close to the size of Natani's breasts.

What it lacks in attractive artistic style it really makes up for in all the story elements. Not to mention all the time its had to world build. It's great. Plus that one page where Dr. Bowman and the director guy and Flo are done in a super detailed style is amazing and I'm happy with just that.

I note they swapped bodies -- but not clothes. So we have Florence's mind in Natani's body wearing Florence's clothes, and then Natani's mind in Florence's body wearing -- something. So Florence is half right, Natani is taking off the clothes on Florence's body although they're probably what Natani originally was wearing.

Ah, well, crap. I see my words have been misinterpreted. I was saying that I liked how Tom drew the free fall characters, because it makes them feel a little more real to me. I’m sorry to all of you who mistook my words. I shall delete my earlier comment. Also, if the goal of all of you was to make me feel guilty, it worked. Bleh. I regret what I said, because looking back on it, I can see why all of you would be angry about what I said. So again, I am deeply sorry, and I will refrain from commenting about other people’s artwork in comparison, especially when I have limited knowledge of the other comic.

I have to agree with Bill. It's a really dickish move to say Tom's better at Freefall than Mark is, and frankly it's just not true. Putting aside the difference in artistic styles, production times, personal focus as an artist, and so much more, it's just asinine to look at two very experienced artists who have been drawing for literal decades and say that one is inadequate at his own work.

I love Freefall, not for the art, but for the characters, story and setting. It’s really interesting to see the thought that has gone into the world building, and especially the literal world building by the characters, as they live in a colony on a planet in the middle of terraforming.

Pretty much the height of rudeness though to say that because you dislike the art or story of Freefall, that that makes Tom better at Freefall that the author is. Saying afterwards you arent hating on it? You're an asshole - no offense.

To each their own. Considering FreeFall has been going since the 90s, 3 strips a week. Mark Stanley has been doing the comic ad free, and free of charge since the beginning, only in the last year or so has he setup a Patreon, but he doesn't really use it. But still updates the comic 3 times a week. I can see though where it wouldn't be for everyone, but judging the quality of a comic by the art quality isn't quite fair.

I saw it, gave it a read, couldn't get into it at all either. I have less of a hard time when someone with great skill out draws someone else, what I find inexcusable is when someone does something like draw a las lindas comic (not one worth reading frankly any more) character and absolutely shows just how terrible the art style or lack there of has become as of late.
