Outclassed 2 - Page 30 (WIP)

As I said last weekend, one of the props of working ahead of the deadline (and going into this with a full script already done) is being able to add foreshadowing to early pages and that's exactly what I did here, you might recall all the way back in page 2 Walter and Suarez had a little discussion about lace-up jockstraps. THAT WAS SETUP FOR THIS, BABY!

There's this thing Chuck Jones did with his Looney Tunes shorts (especially the coyote and road-runner cartoons) which was having a set of rules for the characters that maintain consistency while having enough leeway to be flexible and creative. Such as, the road-runner cannot harm the coyote, he's always harmed by his own ineptitude, there will be no dialogue, all tools must be obtained from Acme, etc. I like to have this rule with Suarez, where he can win, he can lose, but he can't be humiliated. You can outsmart him but he's still walking out with his dignity intact.

Embarrassment and humiliation involve shame... and Suarez... is shameless. It also seems like Suarez doesn't want OTHER people to feel shame either. It's kind of like "okay, learn from it and move on and don't get in situations where you can't even control your own reactions to stuff." And that frankly is a very good quality for a teacher. "I'm not trying to make you feel stupid; I'm trying to get you to do the work I KNOW you can do if you'd just quit dicking around.."

I do love that concept and it is fun to have set rules like that to keep consistency while also allowing room to run with ideas. :3
