I believe the captain of the IRL flying Dutchman was named Henderick Van der Decken, Davy Jones is another legend, but If I remember correctly Davy Jones captained the Flying Dutchman in Pirates of the Carribian. There is a theory on why we first now see the black tint of Haki visualization, and why we have not seen it prior. The theory is that the story we see is being narrated similar to "How I meet your mother" by one of the Characters in the series. There are usually two characters that are tough of being able and willing to tell the story. I believe the most popular are Usopp and Brook, the outside shout are Robin and Luffy. I feel Usopp is the most likely the narrator! While many believe it to be Brook since many thinks he is not able to die, being a skeleton and all.!

Armament hardening is just Armament haki. It is just a way to visualize one of the three types of haki. Now that we know what haki is, we as an audience can see it. If people's things turn black it is just armament haki being applied.

Armament hardening is just armament Haki, from now on in the show armament haki will be shown by the black color. I think they didnt do that pre timeskip just because oda didnt quite decide on how to visualize it.

Oda did his marine Biology homework for the deep sea life. All those animals do exist in real life, but not in such extremes. The tube worms don't eat meat, they eat bacteria and plankton. Faceless crabs exist because they don't need eyes, and blobfish you can Google.

The black armament hardening is just a new visualization of armament haki being used. It's never explained why we can see it yet but many people just take it to mean that since luffy is aware if haki now, we can see it too
