A bit late but just a little hint. They translated poorly the name Nanika to "Something". So they are 2 different souls in one body. Alluka is the little brother and Nanika is the other creature from the D Kontinent that came with Netero back.

Feel like I should bring up the fact that Killua calls Alluka's alter ego "Nanika". A lot of subs will translate it directly to "Something" which is technically what it means, but Killua turned it around and uses it as her name instead. I saw that you got confused on how Alluka's powers work so that's how they work: 1. Alluka will make 3 requests for you. 2. If you grant Alluka's 3 requests, she will turn into what they called "something" (his name is Nanika) and he'll grant you one wish. Ex: Request 1: Carry me Request 2: Kiss me Request on the cheek 3: Pat me in the head, then you can now make a wish 3. After you made wish and it was granted, Alluka's eyes and mouth will turn back to normal and Alluka will come back. 4. Now, let's take for example the wish of becoming a millionaire that one of the butlers asked "something" (Nanika) to grant, since that wish was so big, Alluka's next 3 requests will be huge like "give me your heart" or "give me your liver". So... The larger/more difficult your previous wish is, the larger and more difficult the next requests will be. 6. If that other person refuses to follow four of Alluka's request, that person and his most loved one/most time spent with will die. The larger your request is and is not fulfilled, the more people will die.

A lot of peapole seam to be stuck of the gender idea beind alluka, personaly I dont think it matther that much.. I think that it is such a genius idea tough because just with that detail Togashi manage to create such interesting situation when it become easy to judge by the way the character are talking of her what they think of her. it feels like people that call alluka "her" or "she" are more trustable and align more with the cause of Killua. just with this verry simple detail Togashi manage to create a dynamic between characters that is so interesting. as a matter of fact I did the same in that comment^^

When I first watched I assumed Alluka was a girl. I didnt even realize characters were referring to Alluka as just about everything he/she/it - but I figured that confusion came along with the almost genderless 'Something' state Alluka expresses

I have also heard the theory that because of the special treatment Alluka was given by Killua, made him want to appear more female (Kalluto) so that's why he dresses like that but is still referred to as "he". Don't know about the accuracy about that but its a pretty fucked up family so why not.

I understand the confusion bc Killua’s family keeps referring to Alluka as a “boy”. Alluka identifies herself as a girl so therefore she is one. Togashi has written several trans characters in his other works so it really shouldn’t be so surprising that he’d write a trans character in hxh. Killua’s family calls Alluka a “boy” and these are the people that don’t even respect her as a human being in the first place. Alluka and Killua, the one who’s closest to her, calls her a girl so it’s safe to say that’s what she is, no matter what parts she may or not have been born with

I really like Leorios power because it kind of makes sense for him as a doctor, he can perform surgery using his nen without actually needing to cut someone open

I think the thing about gender there is that she (or he, maybe both) is basically a creature from "somewhere else" and adding than ambiguity just emphasises the otherwordliness of that character. I might be wrong though, I watched it so long ago and there were such long breaks between the chapters that I might not remember some details.

All the Zoldyck children are boys. But Alluka associate herself as a girl and Killua are respecting her wishes. But I also like this arc. Mostly because Hisoka and Illumi are in it. They are my favourite characters. XD

Kalluto is kind of the same deal as Alluka. The zoldyck family is said to only have boys but like ppl are saying, Alluka prefers to be called sister. I have no idea why Kalluto dresses like he does. Some people say its because of his mom. But everyone other than Killua refers to Alluka as a son in the Zoldyck Family. Kalluto is also a son.

I don't think it was ever stated by the maker himself (correct me if I'm wrong) but Alluka is originally a boy but identifies as a girl (as Killua is the only brother that cares, he actually calls her a "she" while the rest of the family call her a he or it)
