Nah man it totally makes sense once you've spent so long exposed to Odas world and can see what kind of story telling one piece is. Its more realistic in the sense that irl a powerlifter can still fall down the stairs and die. Shanks was so concerned about luffy he lost his composure and messed up. Oda has shown how things related to peoples past (roger for shanks -luffy saying the same thing he said so itd be like losing him all over again) can affect haki. Shanks is still just a human who actually even relaxes more than usual. so unlike (spoiler) big mum whos always crazy/ tense theres less reason to assume his haki is always up.. especially if u wanna get technical because shanks specialises in conq haki which isnt a physichal buff. A lot of little nuances hold up the contingency of one piece even tho it was implemented sketchily early on

Nothing will ever make sense of early one piece power scaling. Comparing it to hxh that flushed potential out since episode one, one piece doesnt come close. The day anyone can explain why a shanks lost his arm to a sea beast without going to some far fetched it was special kind of bullshit im all ears. It was weak enough to be scared of his haki but strong enough to take an arm of the dude that battled mihawk on a daily?! Make that make sense my guy.

The one piece world is defintely whacky but whats cool about coming back to watch these older eps is that you understand how the powers work better and so its more like HxH than DBZ I guess. fyi If I dont have time for a full reawatch then this is about where id start.. or maybe even in another 100 eps lol... but I reckon this is where u could say OP starts to get epic... dont be doubtin Oda :P

if i remember correctly ( not a huge dbz fan, so not sure) but kaio-ken is more of a short term power boost that enhanced everything. while luffys gear 2nd is a way luffy uses his rubber body to pump his blood faster. and since Oxygen now travels faster around his body he can move a lot faster. his punches are a lot faster so they hit harder but his body is not actally getting stronger

lol also to explain the "Yoyoi" guy's appearance the reason he looks and talks like that is cuz he is designed to be like actors in Japanese Kabuki plays. In those plays the actors wear a ton of white face makeup and move around like that and talk very slow the way he does. If you look up "Kabuki play" you will see the similarities
