Summarizing everything Ymir said about Reiner. He has split personalities due to him dealing with the trauma of being responsible for countless deaths. Annie dealt with it by acting tough and cold, and Bert by being shy and not having initiative. By the way, just to clarify some things, the guy who looks like a priest in Ymir's flashback is not the same as pastor Nick, and all that happens somewhere outside the walls (not a spoiler, since the info-screen at the middle of the episode states clearly that Ymir's hometown is from somewhere outside the walls).
