While he is not my favorite character I do think that Reiner is the best character in A.O.T.

Shit happens. I didn’t know constantly commentating and analyzing while watching a show for the first time, with big lights blaring in your eyes and 2 other monitors that allow the software required to record to be monitored to ensure no issues arise and missing some things makes me a kid. It’s almost like being able to watch something in silence with no distractions in any way allows you to not miss things as easily that would result in some confusion 🤔

Billy Joe

Yep, and that was also the reason for why he couldn't fight Annie at first on the first season finale.

Daniel Munoz

Ruff really?, You're not a kid who needs to be told with apples what's happening. It is obvious that is the past, here's some proof: 1-It's taking place in the mountains, just as Ymir mentioned on the last episode "remember the promised we made at the mountains". 2-A character that was death at that current present time was shown (Marco), but you probably forgot about him, because you forget about characters a lot. 3-It is shown the Trainees Corps flag and Eren literally says "I never though winter training would be so rough", at that current present they are part of the Survey Corps. In conclusion it was no mystery that it was a flashback and it doesn't even need to tell the audience that it is, because the show trusts the audience is smart enough to see it, and as I exposed the show gives the audience details and straight out dialogues that state that it was a flashback. Geez, you really needed to at least re-watch the last episode before you started recording the next one, because you're not good at holding information.

Daniel Munoz

The soundtrack when Reiner and Bertholdt transform is phenomenal. A perfect unity of heartbreak and terror.

InfiniteSox

i think half the time you get confused you either forget what happened in the previous episode or straight up didnt read the related sub. in the future it might help to either read a recap of the previous episode or even skip through and watch parts to jog your memory

Also, it's not that Eren doesn't believe it, it's that he's in denial. Those 3 who turned out to be his enemies were close friends to him who he literally spent YEARS with during his cadet training. Someone suddenly dropping that on you has to hurt.

James Decker

My god, rewatch the previous episode if you don't know what's going on. It's the flashback Ymir was talking about last time.

James Decker

same

Small humorous error on the animators part: At 42:29 Reiner still has his right hand when he tackles Mikasa, but the very next time you see him, before he transforms, his hand is gone.

Also I get that you missed the hints in the first episode that it was set in the past but Attack On Titan drops A LOT of important information really subtly without emphasis, for example you missed the detail of Historia's royal blood. Just be aware of this for future episodes. Episode 6 is my favourite episode to watch people's reactions! One of the best anime episodes OAT imo just because of how backwards it seemed to me watching it for the first time and how much it twisted the story. AOT is the best show, not just anime, i've ever watched when it comes to reveals and how well integrated they are into the story.

thenunezguy

"There are so many questions that aren't being answered" Attack on Titan is so frustrating until it isn't and it's one of the greatest anime of all time

thenunezguy

he shouldn't, it was clearly stated, but he simply missed it is all.

Peacefinder Simply

You missed the point that Historia Reiss is in noble family while making different points. Hopefully you don't take this as spoiler since i'm just repeating what's been said in the scene.

PoinT_BlanK

Get ready because there were hints all along! There are some spoiler ones I left out that the anime will show. (Firstly, most times when Annie, Bertholt, and Reiner are talking, they have sweats!) Ep 2: Young Reiner and Bertholt look upset to hear about the 250,000 deaths they caused five years ago. Ep 3: Reiner is shown drinking while Eren describes the Armored Titan (cheeky editing, not proof). Reiner later asks Bertholt why he bothers describing Titans attacking their village. Ep 4: Annie says she doesn't enjoy playing soldier. Reiner says she isn't cut out to be one. Ep 7: Reiner tells Annie to wait when she asked what to do, during the battle for Trost. Ep 8: Reiner tells Annie he's glad she isn't injured. Later, Reiner and Annie say they should save Eren's Titan as an ally (before anyone knows who it is). Ep 10: Reiner is horrified when he hears the canon shot at Eren. He, Bertholt, and Annie rush over. Ep 17: Reiner dropped his hood, the Female Titan smiled, he survives, and she left. Ep 30: Bertholt was about to bite his hand right before Ymir saved them from the collapsing tower.

was a little to subtle for me, i was confused as heck at first but thats when you really need to pay attention to figure it out, ranting isn't going to help you figure it out. I figured it out fast because the context in the situation, they were speaking like they were training, and marco was actually alive on top of it.

Peacefinder Simply

I hate to say it but the subtle context that the winter training was a flashback was there if you don't miss a few words. It's alright, it happens.

Veritas

people reacting to the reavel never gets old😂

Hos_77

I sure as hell did not suspect Reiner or Bertolt the first time i watched this even though Reiner looks like the armoured titan... but I didn't even suspect Annie either lol

Brandon Diaz

If you remember the conversation right before Ymir jumped see said to remember the promise we made on the snowy mountain so this is what they are referring to it seems that you didn’t catch that at the end of last episode. Also Marco is alive in this so while attack on Titan will answer your questions you have it also doesn’t just spell out everything for you. Lost of context clues you have to remember sometimes to get scenes.

Nathan Brost

well, technically they show Marco right at the beginning where they discuss the fact, that Christa is still missing, and Marco is already dead in the present And at the end of the last episode, Ymir mentions the training in the mountain to Christa So there were clues that the whole thing has taken place in the past - but it's really subtle. I understand your confusion and I can't remember if I caught on immediately the first time watching

Antonia B

It is much easier to see in anime because we can see armour titan in the opening. In the manga we only saw him at the beginning, Reiner was showed after a decent amount of chapters.

Assassin21BEKA

Ymir was apeaking about winter training in the previous episode. In this episode we have winter and Eren said that it is a winter training.

Assassin21BEKA

So many episodes, thank you
