I like you man, but holy crap you need to grow up a little bit and stop being so unempathetic to these characters and the situations they are stuck in. Our lives are easy compared to what they have to endure. Nobody knows how they would react in these situations until they are actually thrust into them. And if you were, you'd probably end up dead.

2020-12-11 14:14:17 +0000 UTCIts just an anime, but from what I can gather Ruff has a naive way of thinking. Choosing your safety over the cause is something must of humans would do. Anybody can say that they would choose to take the risk and sacrifice for humanity, but at the moment of true that's not what happens. I think taking the selfish choice is as respectable as choosing to go on the front lines. The world is not black and white, and Attack on Titan portraits that very well, even Jean thinks about how he was going to be in a safer position, he feels some regrets, because he wishes to be safe, but at the same time his experiences with their friends dying make his ideals push him further and fight for humanity. Essentially Jean is still a coward and selfish guy, but he has ideals that make him act differently.
