A fun One Piece game is One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 which you can play through every arc up until around episode 700. Since you aren't very far you won't be able to play much of the game yet, but you can play as you watch.

They do spoil the one after our next crew member in the opening. The opening drops just before they join. But if he sees them and then says oh that’s a crew member then it doesn’t matter if he watches it. But if he doesn’t remember them then it would be a better reveal if he watches it in the anime.

I think it is part of the experience. Getting to see nee characters and wonder what the do. Normally the don’t even reveal that many plot points, or clearly indicate who is a strawhat before they join.

i would recommend not watching the opening till after all the arcs in the opening are done. you could be spoiled on future straw hats or important moments.

buggy just seemed kinda weak because he fought against the straw ahts, but he is still a devil fruit user so versus normal people he is pretty much untouchable

Fun fact in the ugh 4Kids Dub they changed Captain Smokers name to Captain Chaser as a way to avoid any references to smoking they even edited out his cigars. Smoker while a scary looking Marine is one of the good ones like Coby.
