Opinion on Motion Capture for creating animation?

Do you guys think utilizing motion capture assets (for example like running, jumping or any recorded movement by real human actor wearing mocap suit) for creating an animation content is considered "cheating" for an animator?
Note: Utilizing means using the asset as it is or modified in some way to fit the animation
A topic I've been wondering about for some time.
As technology progressed, I saw a lot of new workflows on creating animation as opposed to manual handcrafted keyframe animation and thus, I am thinking on investing more advanced tools (for example motion capture suit or an iPhone that have facial tracking) to create better animation be it for NSFW or SFW projects. It may tremendously improve production speed in some cases.
On the other hand, some argues that using motion capture is too realistic and not a "true" animation itself. It may make the animator too reliant on mocap. Some also prefer a more clunky, unrealistic one since it speaks originality and unique style of the animator.
Of course, there are no right or wrong opinion. I just want to hear your take on this.
