Maybe even putting testing feelers out there by saying stuff about it being just for fun like 'Please correct me and say its more' but Zack and Aerith are like 'love this boy...too bad he's not interested and makes sure we know it's no strings attached.'
Had he brought it up PROPERLY they could have immediately let him know that they have never opened their relationship like this and that it's ONLY him and he's their special bb.
Probably starts avoiding them and trying to end it because his heart is shattering. Maybe one f them reached out to him separately because the other is MISSING HIM and finds a very sad boi and it all comes out - maybe with some more angst and pining for good measure 8D
