How to draw Fanart of real people

Or of any characters really and to have it look like them.

The single most important thing to do is observe them and find their most notable feature.

Often with game and cartoon characters they'll have crazy hair or sometimes unrealistic features - huge eyebrows or very distinctive brows and it can be instantly obvious who youre drawing by a tiny detail.

Like with Final Fantasy 15 - you draw any of their hairstyles and that's it - you know who it is even if there's no other visible features.

When you get to real people everything can be a bit more subtle and therefore more difficult.

One of the people I chose here is Chris Evans because to me personally he's that very generic handsome. Like he's got that traditionally handsome face that doesn't always have a lot that distinguishes him from other traditionally handsome men.

So when you're drawing someone like him find maybe 3 features that you can repeat in your drawings and that will help with your facial consistency. It doesn't have to look exactly like him - it's a drawing so it doesn't have to be perfect. 

It just has to be recognisable as YOUR version of him. So when you draw him people go 'STEVE'

Look for patterns in the features that help you draw the likeness.

An example of this is in the first set, I saw that photo of JK and went 'Oh, he has a little figure of 8 on his nose' and it was like it unlocks how to draw it consistently.

So in the future if you're drawing him and you don't want to look for reference you can draw that little detail and the likeness with fall into place.

Same way with Chris Evans, hairline, nose, chin - maybe how his eyes are set in the skull and how he doesn't have a lot of eyelid space. 

Find whatever helps you.

Remember its your art and style - the most important aspect is consistency in the face for people to recognise it as the character.
