Sketchbook Update 80

Oh boy, I had hoped to do more digital stuff but didn't find time, so I thought I better update before the traditional section gets any bigger! I'm going to see Placebo this week, so I'll probably be doing more drawings out and about.

I've been reading drawn to life- lecture notes from the disney animators, it's actually so dense with amazing info that I have to take breaks to let things sink in. I had the smart (not really) idea to try finding the gestures in things like trees etc, since I really struggle to make them feel lively or...how they feel in real life. They talk a lot about how its hard to get out of habits once you're in them, and I am SO hard into the 'copy from life' camp instead of 'interpret and exaggerate' camp, and I'm constantly trying to break out of it with limited success haha! In this sketchbook I'm hoping to do more messy pages trying to get the essence of a pose rather than drawing what I see.

I've been going out in the ridiculous heat and just taking a memo pad to do gestures instead of carrying my sketchbook, hence the extra pages tied in.

I also went to a really really dull watercolour class, he had us just practicing techniques, the ones I did were a slightly spicier version of 'draw some clouds and sand' because good lord I was bored to death.

Here's a preview of the next fan comic, too- It's an important one, so it's taking a while!
