I feel like each of those pillars of light is one of the bros...kind of like familiars to Noctis and he wont be at full power until he has collected each individual part
A great darkness is coming(Ardyn) and he has to get stronger asap in order to take it on.
I also kind of felt like each of the bros represented a different God so it's like when Noct find them a new spell is unlocked?? Like Gladio is Titan, Iggy is Ramuh and Prom is Shiva or something.
Maybe Clarus and Cor are like Bahamut and Gil to Regis so it's Nocts turn to find his unique spells???
Gladio and Ignis have been aware of this world but Prompto is clueless.
Maybe Ardyn in a bid to stop Noct from reaching his full power was trying to find Noctis' other pieces and has Prompto and he's like FML??? Why do these things always happen to me.
Aaaand, when I say pieces I'm imagining it like poly, like when they meet they just immediately click like a kind of soulmate deal. Even Noctis doesn't know what it feels like and maybe it's a little different for each boy - like he just gets this wash of devotion and different feelings per person.
So when he gets to save Prom it's like like
'Oh.'
'Prompto, I've found you.'
And for Prom who's always felt isolated and alone its like coming home.
