Weekly Update - 259 - 2/24/25

I need a do-over of last week. >.<

I didn't get much drawing done. Suffice it to say that the past month has been emotionally challenging for many reasons. Last week made it much worse, as our beloved cuddlecat of 17 and a half years, Apollo, has been declining rapidly in health. Several trips to the vet later we're pretty sure he doesn't have a lot of time left.

We've seen the writing on the wall since he began to lose pounds several months ago. A cat his size should probably be about 12-13 lbs, and he's now half that. In only the past few months he's lost 1/3 of his body weight. It's very likely he's got some kind of cancer, and treatment options are limited because of his age. It might cost thousands of dollars just to try and identify it and hope that it's of a treatable type, but there's no guarantee that he'll survive treatment or that, even if successful, it will buy him any additional years of quality life.

In the meantime though, despite becoming a fuzzy skeleton, he's still getting around the house okay. Still goes up and down stairs on his own without help, one slow step at a time. He still seeks out food and water and gets excited for tuna and turkey and treats. He still snuggles with us on the couch or on the bed when we're sitting still long enough. We don't think he's suffering, and although he's definitely getting weaker every day, he doesn't seem to be in pain, so our plan for now is to just spoil the hell out of him until he decides he's had enough and forces us to make the near-impossible decision what to do from there. Anything can happen in a very short period of time, at this stage.

So that's been a challenge. And our dishwasher broke last week as well. To be fair, it didn't "break" so much as it has just always been a leaky piece of garbage and it finally stopped working because it was out of warranty.

Yeah, so this past week it's been hard to focus on anything. I've been playing Ratopia as my coping mechanism. Game is actually really good.

Still, aside from the challenges, I didn't do ZERO work last week. I got a little bit more done on the Redtail Casino bonus art. I also wrote up Kiera's character page, which... I need to really be careful with. She has a lot of information, she has the potential to reveal massive spoilers, and she doesn't really have a reason not to. I think that might be why I've been hesitant to reveal things from her perspective for so long. But once I get that edited and peer-reviewed (by me), I'll toss it all over to my husband to add it to the site.

Hopefully this week ends up being more productive. I'm going to try and commit to two promises: Redtail Casino bonus art done (it has so much detail omfg). Kiera character sheet posted (finally).

Then I'd also like to sketch Kiaun's art trade and get started on Page 221 if there's time.

I guess I'm simply saying that life uh... finds a way.
