Sorry I’m late to this game but am very curious what Cass regards as her top 5 or 10 horror films. That could serve as a guide to what kind of horror flicks she most likes. Slasher....such as....????? Halloween? Scream? Saw series? Chunky movies? The 13th Friday on Elm Street. Or like Psycho? The Shining? Get Out?

An 84% critic score and a 55% audience score on rotten tomatoes may suggest a lack of universal appeal I suppose.

Under the Skin (2013) was a disturbing film. I'm not sure if it would be classified as horror, but it was most definitely unsettling.

If you like more human-based horror movies, you might check out Session Nine. It's a low budget, slow burn psychological horror film. Despite the low budget and use of mostly unknown actors, it's surprisingly good and has some super creepy moments! The plot feels like something that could happen in real life.

While you are on children’s theme you could consider ”The orphan” (2009) with Isabelle Fuhrman.

But aren't we really all orphans gathered here under this channel's patronage?

I tried posting this on Youtube, but it got cut off. Anyways, you asked for horror movie recommendations, so here are some of what I consider to be the best horror movies of the last decade. I'm betting you haven't seen most of them, but I could be wrong. People are free to back me up on these or disagree.
- Sweetheart
- The Monster
- The Cleansing Hour
- Overlord
- Hereditary
- Boys in the Trees
- The Witch
- Ginger Snaps
- Ruins
- Ink (May be more fantasy)
- The Woman
- Cabin In the Woods
- Let Me In (English remake of Let the Right One In that is almost as good)
SUBTITLED FILMS
- Martyrs
- Let the Right One In
- I Saw the Devil
- Tigers Are Not Afraid
- Good Manners
- Bulbbul
- Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil
- A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
- Byzantium
- Livid
Movies I really like, but don’t consider “amazing”
- The Dead Inside
- Lo
- Blood Moon (AKA Wolf Girl)
- The Ninth Gate

I'll have to agree with the other posts - both Pan's Labyrinth and The Others are highly enjoyable films. I don't know if it's cause I'm getting old, or this past year has had an effect on me, but I couldn't quite manage to watch the Orphanage yesterday. I've become a scaredy-cat, lol

Good job! If I had to recommend a similar movie, that would be The Others.

Pan’s Labyrinth. Stacy recommended that on YouTube but I wanted to mention it here to make sure you saw. It’s an amazing blend of fantasy/horror/drama and even some war. Highly recommend.

If you haven't seen Tucker and Dale vs Evil, that's pretty great. Comedy/Horror adjacent . Highly recommend.

The Lighthouse would be a great reaction! It's so different than almost every other movie of the last several years, and Dafoe and Robert Pattinson both give amazing performances.
