Update 0.75 - Haruki (Hotfix 01/02/2025)

I'll be short and sweet, because I'm exhausted right now. I managed to get the Haruki update done in time (weee). Just had it playtested by a friend while writing this post.
This one was fun to write, but I'm ready to rest now. I really hope you guys like it. Please please do leave some feedback. There's been very little of it lately, and I genuinely don't know if people are enjoying how the writing has been going as of late.
Still, here it is. I hope you guys like it!

Hotfix (01/02/2025): Fixed some typos, along with a bug with an improperly define facial expression for Yuuichi that caused his sprite to stop showing in one of the dialogue paths. Most importantly, fixed a bug where instead of showing the new CG in the gallery, it would show a duplicate of Haruki's previous CG.

Just another update with Haruki that only makes me froth at the mouth for more. Loving that progress is happening in both the "Big Bad wolf is getting more comfortable with Yuu" and in the Yuu figuring out things side (It always does take you that bit longer you silly fellow), but as many have already said, it only makes the need for more harder now that we're so close. As usual, the CG's were on point and just the vibes and pacing were great (But no matter what the poll said, it'll always be his tits for me.) Fabulous as it always is, and I will wait as patiently as I can for someone that is very much getting to the top of the RI chart

2025-02-03 23:04:15 +0000 UTCI feel bad for Haruki at the end of this update..he gets Yuuichi alone in his room, things are getting cozy, he knows Yuuichi is checking him out and decides to give him a tease..only for the Shiba to freak out and bail on him. I understand that might be more Yuuichi suddenly realizing his attraction to men and not knowing how to handle it (along with being scared that Haruki is going to beat him senseless for popping an erection around him) but the king of mixed signals might feel he's getting some mixed signals himself. Great update, looking forward to the next one ^^

It’s breath of fresh air in between the 4-5 updates from the main interests, things are going pretty quick in this route, which is expected as it is the side route. So overall no real issues to me, excited to see what’s to come next. Typical banger update.

2025-02-03 02:31:42 +0000 UTCSince you asked for feedback, here's my opinion. I love me a social outcast archetype, so this route is very enjoyable to me. Especially this last update, that CG made me giggle and kick my feet (figuratively; in reality I mostly looked like I was having a seizure :P), which I haven't felt since the main characters' early cute moments like these. However, this route does also feel the most 'forced'. What I mean by that is, with the main characters the CS was always Yuuichi choosing to spend time with the love interests. In Haruki's route, they just keep 'accidentally' running into each other a little too often, then I remember that scene where Haru was getting attacked in an alleyway and Yuu ran over there, which felt very out of character for him. With the other routes, the progression felt natural, either very slowly warming up to each other or Yuuichi getting over whatever mental block he has in order to finally accept himself for who he is. Here, he very easily admits that he is gay and attracted to Haruki, a guy who he barely knows and who barely talks to him with anything but insults. I get that with people like that there may be some intrigue, someone you barely know and is mysterious and that makes you want to find out more! However, he doesn't seem like someone who Yuuichi would simply fall for this early on, at most I can see Yuu wanting to chase that friendship, those vulnerable moments and only later start developing romantic feelings. I can't fault it too much as it's supposed to be a side route, I'm just saying it feels rushed. This is all to say I still really like the route, and I wanna make it clear that I'm not hating on it, just stating my opinion. I still think that you did a great job with the limitations of a side route and I am looking forward to the DRAMA :D Side note, that CG genuinely made me fall in love with him all over again, and if the rest of the characters' art gets updated like the main ones I would LOVE to see Haru look like he did there :3

I quite enjoy conversing with someone who expresses himself blunt , crisp and to the point. For my taste, many characters in and outside fiction tend to censor and disguise themselves more into a persona of their own making. Haruki is amusingly and refreshingly the most approachable of the 4, despite and especially because of his prickly character. Also that shit eating grin on Harukis face in the end tells me he knows whats up, and i cant wait to see what devilish plans he has and what path of taunting and teasing he'll set up for our mc.

Any transition these two have into a relationship (of any kind) definitely wouldn't be smooth, that's for sure. Left to see if they weather the storm!

Plus, because the pace is faster in his route, that means there has to be a smaller interval between his art assets, so I end up having to wait for them to be done more often to release updates for him.

2025-02-01 14:27:58 +0000 UTCI do find it interesting that the most openly hostile of the love interests is also the one who seems to be a stickler for politeness, at least based on the fact that Yuuichi being 'rude' came up a couple of separate times this update. I was starting to wonder what would actually trigger Yuu to question his own sexuality in this route since he wasn't confessed to at the festival and whether Haruki would realise that his 'fag' comments were actually hitting a bit more accurate than he might've been expecting, or if Yuu would come to the conclusion by himself. Based on the final scene (and in particular that last grin Haruki gave), I'm almost guessing both at this point. I must admit that Haruki is currently my favourite of the four (kinda expected tbh, I usually default to the 'social outcast' archetype in dating sims). I do worry at times just how much of a relationship we're going to see between him and Yuu since it had so much of a delay just getting to the point where they actually like each other as friends and Yuu only just clocking his queerness, as well as it's designation as a "mini-route", but I'm not going to stress too much over something that hasn't been written yet (especially when the 'main' routes haven't wrapped up either so guessing at the length of a mini-route is kinda pointless when the length of a 'normal route' is still an undetermined value")

Haruki is definitely a character, I'll say that much lol He's probably competing with Jun for who is the most damaged member of the main cast, but he exhibits his damage in far more problematic ways. The relationship with him will have a lot of issues before they can fix it

And no, Haruki's experience isn't something I personally went through (though I did sprinkle some of my personal experiences in a lot of routes. Both Jun's struggles with depression/feeling detached from his own emotions and Yuu's struggles with... bad thoughts after his accident are things I've dealt with). I really appreciate the feedback though. I want to portray these kinds of struggles as correctly as possible so people who've been through it can empathize and feel represented.

He's easily my second favorite at this point, behind Keisuke. And the CG for this update, gorgeous. I don't know which variant of it I like more. All around phenomenal update yet again 💜

My heart can't take it ;w; lmao, but in all seriousness, I adore Haruki and his route, and I'm SO glad he was added. 🧡 His backstory hits rather close to home for me, and I grew up with pretty much the exact same coping mechanism. My friends joke that if I don't have my headphones on, either the world's coming to an end or someone died and the fact that their joke is actually fairly accurate probably says more than it should. XD But my point to bringing this up is to say, speaking from rather direct experience, he feels incredibly authentic as a character, with his humor, his emotions that seem like a rollercoaster on cocaine to others, and a lot of his more "distasteful" quirks. What's crazy is that I can actually kinda tell roughly what's causing the "swings" he has and I totally understand the reactions he has. He feels SO real and I *truly* hope that's more a result of writing skills rather than firsthand experience, because I wouldn't wish a life like mine or Haruki's on anyone. But either way, I just love his route so much, so on behalf of Haruki fans, I thank you.

I was running against the clock since I didn't want to delay the build, so I didn't get to proofread as thoroughly as I would have liked. And I'm glad the scenes landed! Haruki's route is at a bit of warp speed compared to the others (due to being a mini route and all) so it's a bit of a struggle to make stuff progress so much faster without feeling like I'm butchering the pacing.

I did notice one typo, I dunno if this is the place for it, but when Haruki says something along the lines of "Were you expecting me to be like your friends? If so, fuck off." It says "where" instead of "were." It's the section with the jab at the athleticism. Don't wanna spoil anything for others, so apologies for any vagueness. But the update was so good. That scene at the end was so cute I was gushing so much. The art was great, the writing was great, aaaa. I also really liked the section of "defenestration." Rarely see that word, and the joke following it had me rolling with the imagery. And the internal thoughts with the music toward the end??? I'm so excited for the next Haruki update. Thank you again for all the hard work you put into the VN!! Tennis Ace is hands-down my favorite VN I've ever read by far and I always look forward to every update.
