About water and Devil Fruits users ... they lose control of their powers and body, and can't swim. But doesn't necessarily negate their passive effects. Luffy is rubber no matter what... it's not a off/on switch.

When Zoro stood there and admitted defeat, that's the outcome he expected... but he wanted to avoid the shame of basically running away from it and "to show his back". And like you said, even if he wanted to run, Mihawk would easily just kill him for it. His attitude is actually what helped him survive there. The only other smart play would have been to avoid dueling him in the first place, of course.

2025-11-06 00:53:09 +0000 UTC30:32 thats a fair opinion on zoro taking that slash from mihawk, but im sure the more you see these characters and the writing of this series, itll give you a different perspective and appreciation. remember in buggys arc when cabaji (buggys crew, guy with the unicycle) kept poking zoros wound and zoro later defeats him, he says "An injury to my name is much worse than any injury to my gut!". you may not agree with his views right now here and there understandably so, since it somewhat has to do with their pride getting in the way, but im sure this series will broaden yalls perspectives on stuff of this nature. Zoro taking that slash, along with letting mihawk supposedly let him pierce his heart with that small knife and say he'd rather die than admit defeat is what got mihawk to say "admirable" and like as well as respect him even more to the point hes looking forward to seeing him again and hold his spot until he is ready. it shows its what separates him in this world of pirates having this type of ideology. To me it makes zoro taking that a straight DAWG, mihawk was gonna slash his back too regardless since zoro says "scars on a back are a swordsmans shame" so its not like he was gonna avoid that slash from him anyways. yet zoro takes it from the front and still survives it, garnering mihawks respect
