I do think Zoro needed the defeat and being humbled. From my perspective, i saw everyone in East Blue aware of Zoro, and considering their poor overall level, it was akin to a big fish in a small pond.While strong, he was likely stagnating over there, without any challenging swordsman, till the reality check. Plus as viewers, we needed a taste of the Grandline ,why it's so feared .... and some sort of power level tier list

The ship that Sanji was in was just a regular cruise ship, and Sanji was part of the cooking crew. We see pirate ships more often because we are dealing with pirates, but there are far more regular ships on the ocean than pirates. People travel, and there's trading between islands. The pirates raid and steal from those shipments.

LOL when you were like "he look like dracula" I wanted so badly to be like you'll never guess what his name is.... wish this translation had kept the full version of mihawk's crazy own when he pulls out the tiny knife-- "I'm not the type of fool who hunts rabbits with a cannon" like sir are you kidding meeee ! man, iconic zoro moment. even more iconic mihawk moment. he said i like how crazy you two are, rooting for you guys, ok bye i'm going back to bed :) and then zoro calling out to luffy by being the first to acknowledge him as king of the pirates! sanji's backstory ep is another of my favorites in the early to mid east blue <3 i love tiny sanji and the fact that the series isn't afraid to delve into dark subjects (even if the anime doesnt show the cannibalism lmao). he's so precious ;; and lol "everyone got a sad backstory" i guess normal well-adjusted people dont go become pirates lmaooo. loved the analysis on everyone joining at the end!!
