Ballet Boys

I'll quickly dump this here because I'm excited.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon a documentary about dance students of the Paris Opera (it's on YT if you're interested but it's in German/French, called "Die Tanzschüler der Pariser Oper").  Since then, I was dancing around a ballet boys setting but didn't have the courage to do it since it's ballet and that's been done before and I don't know anything about ballet and I wouldn't have known how to draw it ...

But now I kind of feel ready? Not as awkward as before? And this style fits really nicely with the fluid bodies.

The "main" and "sec" boys are the first ones I had in mind as characters.

Could this be the next thing? Stay tuned.

Don't let that keep you from exploring what you're interested in! I know that copy cat feeling veeery well because I used to imitate some artists and still do. But even if you feel that your story is already out there, tell it anyway. Just don't copy, try to tell it your own way.

I’m really happy you said that because I felt the same way when making stories lol :,,,)

I read the book a few years ago (gosh, I feel so old when I have to write "a few years ago" almost every time) and loved it! But Billy Elliot is one of the reasons why I avoided the boys+ballet idea because it has been done before. Buuuut if you don't do the things that "have been done before", you won't know how your own version of it will be.

This would be such a cute and exciting idea!! ❤️ I remember watching a movie like this called Billy Elliot and I loved it~

Very satisfying to draw those poses. They're very non-casual so not good for usual gesture practice.

Lisa Brenner

The posing alone must be some interesting practice.
