How to Follow a Chord Progression Like a Pro - Part 2

Hello friends,

welcome back to Swiftlessons for a follow up on my lesson breaking down how to follow a 1-4 chord change in the key of E. In this session we'll be learning how to play an ear-catching lick using two positions of the E minor blues scale. We'll begin this tutorial by learning the chord change and source scales before learning two versions of this useful phrase. Let's get started!

Source Scale #1 - E Minor Blues Scale (A Shape Position)

Source Scale #2 - E Minor Blues Scale (C Shape Position)

Lick of the Week - Simplified Version

Lick of the Week - More Advanced Version

I just got a Ditto looper and this is the perfect lesson to start learning how to solo over a chord progression. Rob - you’re really helping me take my playing to the next level. Thank you!

Dave

Great lesson as always. So is the “blues scale” just the pentatonic shapes with additional “color” notes?

Hi Rob, thanks for getting back. That really is good news. In addition to your search bar, you need to peg each lesson to a location, and then add a patch for the pages to load faster and in a better sequence. My full time coder just fixed the same issues on my site (antiques biz,) by adding a patch to each page. If you run into problems, drop me a note and I will have my coder share his work with your coder. I believe you can make things much better with very little work. BTW..I'm not going to charge you anything for helping. I'd just be happy to get to the lessons quicker. I truly enjoy your style of teaching. I've been playing for 50+ years and am learning things I should have known years ago. Keep up the good work!

Hey Rob, it's true, the patreon site still has a ways to go, but I have good news; in a matter of weeks they will be doing a revamp and adding a search bar to the page, this should make tracking down specific lessons much easier.

Rob. good lesson BUT 50% learning and 50% waiting for the site to load....very, very slow. Would be great if you could provide a menu and either single page lessons, or index the lessons so the reader can go right to them. As an instructor, top marks! with plus's As a web site....not so much. Thanks! Rob
