"Shallow" Guitar Tutorial - Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper Guitar Lesson

Hello friends,

And welcome back to Swiftlessons for another by request song tutorial! In today’s session I’m joined by vocalist Stefany Mazor for a complete demonstration and breakdown of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. This lesson will guide you through the fingerstyle technique for the intro, verse, bridge and chorus sections. Let’s get started!

I sing in a choir that uses the Nashville system and agree it would be great to have your explanation as well.

Forgot what the numbers in parentheses mean. Could you explain please. The (2) in the first bar of the intro for example. Thanks :-)

Rob Would you consider demonstrating the so called Nashville Number System in a future lesson? I have been hearing a little about this technique, but feel you would be just the person to explain it properly. Many thanks in advance 🎸

Thank you! :-)

Hey Luisa, hope you’re doing well and enjoying your practice. Singing while playing is tough for everyone, myself included. The number of repetitions needed in order to sing comfortably is very high, so your husband has a point. Drill those riffs till your blue in the face, eventually you’ll be able to hold a convo while playing it, that’s when you know you REALLY got it down. From there, set aside a half hour a day to practice singing and playing your scales, and be sure to sing along with music as you drive around, that’s an excellent way to get some extra practice time. When I sing along, I focus on matching the time, pitch and attitude of a given track. Many times I can’t accomplish this, but don’t let that discourage you.

Got it! Thank you... but, I can't sing while playing the guitar. Plus I cannot sing like Gaga or Stefany. My husband told me to just stick to the guitar part :-(

Hi Rob, enjoying your lessons very much. Trying to get to grips with fingerstyle playing, would love if you could do a lesson for Ashokan Farewell. Its a tune I would really like to play properly.

Thanks for the full tutorial. Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice.
