"You've Got a Friend in Me" Guitar Tutorial - Toy Story Theme - Randy Newman

Hello friends,

and welcome to another by request song tutorial. In today's session I'll be breaking down my arrangement for Randy Newman's 1996 Toy Story theme "You've Got a Friend in Me." I'll take you through the tunes instrumental intro, and the finger-style rhythm options for the verse and bridge sections. Let's get started!

I recommend fretting the E string with your thumb

Thanks for the nice lesson! I am trying to record it using Ableton and...can't find a consistent BPM tempo. What are you playing to? I guess around 63 but...if I search for the song's BPM online it says 120 so....counting the wrong way? Please tell me what you are using :)

Is there a easier way to play the fmj measure 2

Excellent video. Thanks for making this song sound great as I sing to my kids.

WOW Fantabulous

Great video! Thanks a lot, very helpful. The tab isn't complete though...

Looking forward to this. Thanks!

Hey I’m so glad you’re making progress and enjoying one of my favorite lessons. I know your pain, staying in playing position for long periods of time is a killer!

Rob i am having so much fun with this song! 35 years later and i am finally feeling like i am making good progress and learning so much! Even thouhg my back and my butt are sore!!!

I'm struggling with the bridge section on this, my hands are too small to wrap my thumb to get the base lines. In your video you briefly explain that you can use alternate chord's and miss out on the added base line. If possible would you be able to tab that out? or at least break it down? I'm loving your video's by the way!

Thanks for the great lesson Rob! The Patsy Cline lessons were cool too!

My pleasure Dawn, thanks for motivating me to make this resource extra special and for being a valued supporter of my work. Enjoy your practice!

Sending you a huge cyber-hug, Rob, in thanks for that great, updatd pdf. You are special beyond words!
