"All of Me" • Easy Ukulele Tutorial • Billie Holiday

Hello friends,

and welcome to another by request song tutorial. In today's lesson I'll be breaking down my approach to playing Billie Holiday's 1941 rendition of "All of Me" by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons. In this session, I'll be joined by the talented vocalist Turquoise Cobb for a complete demonstration. Let's get started!

P.S. Ms. Cobb is yet to record her first EP, feel free to post some encouraging words in the comments section below.

Note: Lesson is still under review, and only available to patrons. Study guide is now available!

I agree with Luisa! Absolutely gorgeous voice but would also love to see a guitar version. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do!

I hope you brought ms Cobb dinner because she is great and had me smiling all the way through. I Have to say you have good taste in women.

Hi Rob, What guitar chords I will need in order to play along with you and Turquoise? I love her voice.

Her voice is so lovely. I hope you guys can do a little jazz project together.

Thanks Rob! Until I finish building a Soprano I’m working on, all I have is a Baritone so I’m going to see what I can do to tune it to play this. I know I can capo it up at the fifth fret but that doesn’t give me a lot of playing space but it might have to do for now. Thanks for the info on the Ukulele you are playing, that is really cool and it certainly sounds great. I’ve been really thrilled with this lesson!

Hey glad you're loving this David! I'm sure Turquoise will be far too humble to accept such a compliment, but I have to say I agree, she can sing this as good, or better than anyone out there. We're already discussing other covers with her, so expect her back soon.

I find it interesting that the arrangement definitely has a jazz age vibe - but Ms Cobb's voice is clearly (to me) prettier than Billie Holliday's in the original version. I love it .

Hey Buddy, great question. This ukulele is close to a hundred years old and was purchased in NYC from a Mexican luthier. This is according to my neighbor, who is about 80 years old, and who's uncle originally purchased it. It's an odd size, somewhere between tenor and baritone, and so I use GCEA tuning. I have a standard tenor sized uke, and a baritone, and it's certainly closer to the tenor size.

I agree Carl, I could have recorded this a lot better, so I'll have to invite her back soon!

Yes, she has an excellent range, and so much character. Thanks for watching and supporting Milla!

I agree Blair, she can conquer the world with that voice. I hope she goes for it!

Hey Ian, so glad this performance put a smile on your face. Her voice seems to have that effect on people. Expect her back very soon and feel free to request a tune for her to sing.

Vocal perfect. Needs more close up mic sound. Breath tones missing.

Beautiful strong voice.

Rob, Pardon the question but I’m not a Uke person really but I know enough to be dangerous. What are you playing, isn’t that a Baritone Uke? If it is, what are you using for strings? Are you just tuning the regular DGBE Baritone Strings to GCEA or are you using something like the Aquila Baritone Strings for GCEA Tuning? Or is that not actually a Baritone, it sure looks like one, plus it frets up so far! Whatever it is, it’s really cool! Told you I was dangerous... :-) Buddy

a definite talent !!

A singer with a very sultry, sexy voice in the mold of speak easy settings... Not to mention she is a Fox as well... Both very professional sounding....

"World class guitar lessons" sounds a little self congratulatory, but I have to say you've helped me as much as anyone I've taken lessons with or worked with online. And considering the people I've studied with (including Eric Darling) I guess that puts you in the "world class" league. Thanks for the lessons!

What a great performance! I realized I smiled all the way through. Wonderful.
