How to Make Basic Chords Sound Amazing! - Dmaj Hybrid Lick

Hello friends,

And welcome to another lick of the week! In today’s session I’ll be demonstrating a simple way to make basic chords sound amazing! In the context of a 1.5.4.2 progression in G, we’ll employ chord variations, hammer-ons, pull-offs and hybrid picking to our D major chord. Let’s get started!

Absolutely, it's a pretty tough technique to manage when your hand is postured in that D shape. The string is to arch the fingers so that you're not laying on that high E string, this might require you to adjust the wrist, but also position the finger tips so that the strings are just below your finger nails. Once you have the right hand position, you'll need to pull downward as you pulloff the string. Essentially, you should be plucking the string as you pulloff.

Thanks Rob. I am really having a hard time getting any sound when pulling of the E string at the second fret while holding down the D chord. Ive been playing for quite a few years. Was this difficult for you at first also?

Oh boy, this is beautiful, something I've been wanting to learn. Thanks for showing the counting as that really helps me connect with the sound as I practice. Like you suggested, I'm trying to put together a collection of licks to master. That staircase lick you suggested was also terrific.

Thanks Rob

Thanks Rob. This reminds me a little of More Than a Feeling.
