Stevie Ray Vaughan "Life By the Drop" Guitar Lesson & Tab

Hello friends,

Thanks so much for your continued support this November, your patronage has had a tremendous impact on my work, as I happily approach becoming your full-time online instructor! I'm back to typing up notes, chord sheets and tabs for my past lessons. Tonight, let's crack open the Swiftlessons archive and enjoy this tutorial on Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1991 classic "Life By The Drop." If there is an older lesson that you would like for me to make a tab for, please let me know in the comments below. Thanks again, and have a great week of practice! -Rob

Hey my pleasure Karen, this is one of my all time favorites as well. Enjoy your practice! -Rob

This is awesome Rob! Have always loved this song...thank you!

Hey Daniel, with my D7 chord fretted, I'm picking D, B, G, E, B 2x. I usually pick a pattern like this hybrid (finger and plectrum) with a very syncopated rhythm.

hey rob - what pattern are you playing over the d at 1:49, "there's no easier way"?

Rob...Thanks for the great tips, watched your video. This is why you are a world class instructor.

Thanks so much Tommy, I'm so glad you're diggin these blues lessons! I'm actually working on a tab sheet for my six bluesy shuffles video now.

Hey Stephen, playing the guitar and singing simultaneously really comes down to building muscle memory in those areas. There are some Little tricks that I figure out over the years, which I break down in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCdanHZQIgI

Definitely on my to do list Gary!

Rob...Got the song down, but having trouble singing it. To...dot ta dot ta dot ta dot ta...and tips on singing this. Thanks Steve

Rob...Fantastic...Never in my wildest guitar dreams did I ever think I'd be playing a SRV song. Love this song, and the way you break it down. Thank you

Great lesson! I've wanted to learn this song for a long time, but thought it was way too hard. The way you broke it down makes it less intimidating, so I think I'll give it a try. I have enjoyed every one of your blues lessons. And the Six Bluesy Shuffles lesson and the Bar Chord lesson are great building blocks for this tune. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Yes! Instant classic, a well done and cleaar to understand Lesson.

Great lesson Rob. How about Eva Cassidy's version from the Nightsong album of "Fields of Gold". A bunch of other good song choices for lessons on that album also.

Thanks for the Tab. Great acoustic song. Looking forward to digging into this one.

Another nice one! Thanks Rob.

Been meaning to revisit this song. Thanks for the music sheets!
