How to Play The Beatles "Across the Universe" - Easy Guitar Lesson

Hello friends,

and welcome to another Swiftlessons Song Tutorial! In today's lesson, I'll break down The Beatles 1969 classic "Across the Universe" from their Let It Be LP. I'll take you through John's iconic acoustic guitar intro, before breaking down the chord progressions and strumming techniques for the verse and chorus sections. Let's get started!

Rob, you do very nice lessons, very thorough. Thanks man!!

That's great. Song requests Here Comes the Sun, Hotel California.

Well then, "Jai Guru Deva Om", my Teacher... 🎸🎼👍🏻😎

Yeah, I never really got the sense that John fully embraced the spirituality that George found in India. He probably just thought it sounded cool?

More fingerstyle lessons are on the way, I promise!

As always, thanks so much James!

Hey thanks Buddy, Jai means "thanks" or "Hail," "Guru" means "Teacher" or "spiritual guide," "Deva" means "God," "om" is the source of all existence that comes from vibration, which is why it is repeated during meditation. The Beatles traveled to India to study spirituality with the Maharishi, Guru Dev was the Maharishi's teacher.

I stick in my own lyrics over John's weird chorus -- only time I've ever done this, but rest of song is so on it. I know it probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but that's the same question everyone asks.

Rob, this is so sweet! Hey, what exactly does "Jai Guru Deva Om" mean? Ha! :-) You Rock, thanks so much. B.

Very Nice lesson! Thanks Rob.

Too bad it's not fingerstyle :(
