"Only the Lonely" Acoustic Guitar Lesson - Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak

Hello friends,

It's time for another By Request Song Tutorial! In today's lesson I'll break down the Chris Isaak version of the 1960 Roy Orbison classic "Only the Lonely." I'll take you through the rhythm sections of the intro, verse and chorus and also the catchy lead guitar part heard in Chris's 1996  version. Let's get started!

It would be nice to have the guitar solo included in the tab.

Happy to be of help Chris. There's no better cure for a broken heart than a little Roy Orbison... He's certainly gotten me through some lows over the years. Be well and enjoy your practice!

Ah thank you so much!! Life was not complete without learning this part (best healing after abad breakup). Thanks for your good work.

Hey Chris, I just took a moment to tab that solo for you and I pasted it into the post above. I also recommend clicking the gear in the bottom right of the vid to adjust the play speed. Have fun!

How to play that solo in the middle of the song? Cant find it in the tabs :/ played too quick in the video to learn :(-

Hey Ken, thanks for the dose of encouragement! I’ll have to revisit this video when I get a little extra time. Thanks for the positive feedback!

Rob, I love this song and your lesson , and would LOVE a tutorial on the nifty lead you play between verses

When I get a little down time, I'll work on that as a special patron only lead lesson. Thanks Rob!

Great, but would sure love to have the tab for the lead!

Thank you Ben!
