The thing with siblings is they each have their own lane. Grumpy, as he is affectionately called, is scared of everything. Rightly so, the poor guy was alone in the scary world without his mother longer than his sister. Sophie is a little clown, desperate for affection and interaction, so happy to have a full belly and a safe place. Grumpy will accept the food and shelter, as long as nobody makes eye contact with him or makes any loud noises. Once I watched him get brave enough to come out and play with the water tray, and then a train horn sounded in the distance and he looked up, looked at me, and went directly back to his safe spot in the cage.

I love this set of photos of them exploring my shed because when I found them hiding here Grumpy hissed at me, then shrank down and tried to become invisible. Sophie started desperately trying to climb towards me for attention. His weariness of humans will serve them both well, as will her curiosity about the world. Balance in all things.
