Peonies and Sage

The morning of the 10th slumber party I rolled over and checked my phone. At 7am Sage sent me a happy photo of her with her arms full of peonies still in the bud. “I was at the wholesale market and I couldn’t resist,” her message said, but the sparkle in her eyes in the photo brought the message home.

I feel so lucky to have Sage in our fold, over the years she’s brought us honey from her sisters’ farm for all the guests to take home, she’s enriched our circles by teaching us Ojibway words and sharing her culture, and most importantly she’s always a warm and welcoming face in any room she graces. Newcomers and regular guests mention how she’s made them feel at home, drawn them in with her joyful energy. Our slumber parties wouldn’t be the same without her.

Here she is Friday night cutting and prepping bundles of peonies. (Lovely Lexie is helping.) She placed bountiful bouquets all over the house so the fragrance danced in each room. Peonies are my favourite flower, as many of you know, and having these sensory beauties surround us all weekend was the icing on the cake. Thanks Sage!
