Last night one of my teenagers asked my best friend Joie and I to take them to check out the Non-Binary Pride March. It was their first time attending a pride event. Let me tell you we were a proud mama and auntie as we dressed in our rainbow finest and showed them our gay little village.
Once we arrived at the event my kiddo was taking it all in and said out loud “I’ve been here for 5 minutes and I love this already!” A very gorgeous flamboyant man walking by with his crew of very handsome gays turned around and called out “and we love YOU already!”
As my child beamed and yelled back “Happy Pride!” to these generous strangers I held back tears and thanked the gay gods for this moment where the community wrapped them in welcome and love for who they are.
Pride is something that’s taught. I know I’m privileged to be able to give that to my children.
