We’d been curious about the upper floor for years, it was a real treat to peek beyond the mysterious top staircase. Even more so when she told us we could thrift her collection of clothing from her shoots and work as a stylist!
She had racks of robes and dresses, shoes and coats. Handmade and designer, all mixed together in her narrow hallways for us to peruse. I snagged a very Ms.Frizzle-esque planetary space dress and a hand-knit alpaca sweater with tattoo-flash inspired designs. Both so unique and like they were made for me. Ms.O found this vintage fur coat. Or rather, this gorgeous vintage fur coat found O. It was a perfect fit. There’s embroidery on the inside, floral details and a woman’s name stitched in, the ghosts of the previous owner who had made it her own. It was well loved and the buttons and pockets were perfect.
We’d been admiring the strange taxidermy in the house earlier, all a little peculiar, all thrifted by the witchy woman who owns the place. We’d agreed that the only good thing to come of the tragedy of an animal being killed for trophy was the fact that you could rescue these items from basement bazaars and thrift shop windows and give them some compassion and appreciation. The coat was no different. An archaic treasure that could be loved and appreciated with lingerie and too much prosecco.
