Everyday Witchery

For me witchiness is embracing my place on this Earth, connecting with something that has been around long before me, and will continue long after I’m gone. I helps me see my nurturing abilities in a gentle light, and helps me to harness my energy in more positive ways. And it never hurts to invite more magic in.

I’m going to be sharing little suggestions that helped me to build my own witchy practice and they’ll all be tagged “witchery”.

Intention is everything in witchcraft. Being purposeful in everything you do is a wonderful way to bring peace and mindfulness to your life. (Remember, it’s called a practice because nobody is perfect at this! We have to ‘practice’ to be able to build these skills.)

Deciding I wanted to be more intentional with my rituals and the ways I care for my community started with the sapphic slumber party. I always lead a ritual or spell at midnight, something to bring us together intentionally to harness our magic. The first few were easy to plan, but then I had to start researching and learning and getting creative. (And I loved it!)

In an effort to be more prepared, and to consciously put more effort into collecting things for rituals and practice, I started a shelf for items I’ve collected for witchiness. It started with the sage bundles I have on hand for when people move or leave relationships, then the cedar bundles for people who need protection. Then it was rose petals from special moments, pussy willows from the spring, snakeskins from the forest, my dogs whiskers, other neat things I found in nature. All of a sudden it looked like a little apothecary shelf.

The burning ritual will be specific to you and sent via snail mail. Burning rituals are a great thing to do in the new year to close a chapter and start anew, and it’s fun to have a little fire.
