Postcard Club Win

If you’d like a chance to win this month’s postcard comment and tell me about your personal favourite Halloween costume. What was your best costume of all time?!
Mine was possibly the Queen of Hearts costume my Mama made me when I was a little girl. She sewed a hula hoop into the bottom of the skirt so it stuck out like a ball gown! And I had a crown and sceptre and everything. I was 8, I remember her braiding my hair, Dutch-style braid buns.
Honourable mention to all of the times I dressed up as a pirate. And the best-ever poly group costume; when I was Goldilocks and my husband, Ms.O and Kitten dressed up as the 3 bears.

I really loved my Barbarian Girl last year; like a grown up, more realistic, Pebbles. I've been a witch multiple times, but that's basically just me taking my normal wardrobe up a couple extra notches 😆.

2020-10-18 01:00:54 +0000 UTCMy favourite was when I dressed up as little red riding hood and the boyfriend was the big bad wolf. I carried around jello shots and pot cookies in my basket to give away. It was a lot of fun! My go to is also pirates, lots of great stuff with pirate costumes 😁

2020-10-17 10:15:22 +0000 UTCThe only Halloween costume I remember putting effort into was in third grade in the mid-1980s, when I dressed up as a computer. This involved a large cardboard box, painted mostly white, with various buttons painted on it and a couple of cardboard data-tape reels and a small slot that I could feed paper "printouts" out of (although I don't think I had a way to write more inside the costume). Possibly the other best was the time a few years ago where I did a stealth costume that worked as perfectly as I could have hoped. I happened to have hair of the right level of shagginess, and on Halloween I shaved my beard to just the right level of scruff and put on a black turtleneck and appropriately just-a-bit-faded blue jeans to go to work at my Silicon Valley programming job. My close-friend formerly-at-Apple coworker had to check to confirm I was even in a costume at all, but he caught the fact that I was and knew exactly who I was dressed up as. (Steve Jobs, for those who don't recognize the description. He basically always wore a black turtleneck and blue jeans.)

My ex girlfriend was obsessed with Halloween most of the year which added to my frustration. Not that long after we split (all to this was over a decade ago) - I decided I was going to go all in on Halloween. At the time I had a big bushy beard. I hadn’t told a soul about my Halloween plans. The day if the biggest Halloween party in Buffalo I left work early to get what I needed got my costume. Went home, shaved my beard and dressed up as Aladdin Sane era David Bowie. Red hair, makeup, face paint, women’s blouse. The whole nine. Needless to say I shocked everyone I knew by even showing up, let alone my appearance. There was even a Freddie Mercury there that night! I ended up shirtless and flirting with every single human of any gender the whole night. I set myself a high watermark I’ve yet to meet since. And last year my partner and I went as Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth. Glory Days.
