Bear With Me 🐻

This was the final photo I had saved in my drafts from the last Sapphic Slumber Party. I kept meaning to write a mushy rant about Scout and her bright light. Scout is a mushy brilliant bubbly babe, a kindred spirit in the true Anne of Green Gables tradition. I’ve been so lucky to have her as a friend while she lived in Hawaii, Australia, British Columbia and now in the southern United States. And she’s bopped up here to visit during all of these adventures, we keep touch by text and photos and phone calls and surprises.

ANYWAY... at the first sapphic slumber party the resident artist at the mansion we rent was selling these cute fucking bear paintings. I bought one (pictured below) and we partied with him, he’s featured in a few of the photos from that evening and now he lives at my cabin. Gloria and Scout named him Chester and he’s the smiling guardian of my woods.

At the 6th slumber party Scout returned! I’d been wanting to find something cool to send her home with as a housewarming gift for her new place in the south. Something Canadian and unique and sweet. We were still setting up when I saw the resident artist and asked if, by chance, she had any bears left for sale. “I’ve got two left,” she said and one of them was blue, Scout’s favourite colour. It was a good omen, and an easy sale, and I was delighted to present it to her when she arrived. We left him out for the evening (pictured in header) so he, like Chester (on the far right below), could absorb all of the party’s good vibes before finding a place on her wall.
