This morning I woke up and remembered it would have been the 7th sapphic slumber party today. One of the very best days of the year. We are all mourning a little, especially with the news that Pride has been cancelled at the end of June. It feels like all the things we need are being pushed so far away, even though those things feel trivial they add up. Community is so important, for those who fall outside of the mainstream particularly. These losses are real.

So today I woke up with all of this in my heart. I made a cup of tea and started building this friendship mandala while thinking of my coven. I started with the patches I had made by Lucky Queer on Etsy. I added dried roses, the purple ones I’d bought for myself, the yellow ones from the Power Move bouquet from Max last September. I added crystals that represent protection, clarity, love and calm, and a few live leaves I picked from my indoor plants. (Fitonia because it’s beautiful and delicate and needs a lot of attention, and the pink coleus because it’s just the opposite and I’ve sprouted plants from my own to gift to many of my coven babes.) I sprinkled the whole thing with sparkly quartz chips and took a few moments to meditate on our brilliant coven of babes and all of the love and wonder we make together.

After that I emailed all the guests to let them know I’m thinking of them, and of us, and to invite them to light a candle with me tonight at 9pm EST, which is when we would have had our opening circle. I would like to invite any of you who are missing connection and community right now to join us in spirit and do the same.
