Cabin Dweller

I picked up “Never Cry Wolf” by Farley Mowat yesterday and didn’t put it down until I’d finished. I read curled up on the armchair in the afternoon, I read sprawled out on the couch in the evening. I read in front of the fire at night with a little flashlight. I read the last chapter lazing in bed this morning. It’s exactly how I wanted to spend my Sunday.

(My dad used to read Farley Mowat aloud to my brothers and I before bed, or on long cross-country road trips. Owls in the Family was my childhood favourite, but The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be was a close second. I still remember the lessons and adventures in Lost in the Barrens, and Curse of the Viking Grave. Mowat’s curiosity about the natural world, and his distaste for bureaucracy make him one of my favourite Canadian authors.)
