The death counter wasn’t counting the clockwork soldiers, if you recall on your way to the mansion, there was that “incident” with the whale oil ladies, and those guys that decapitated themselves. Also I couldn’t say for certain Paolo eating those guards in rat swarm form didnt count against you. If ever you want to check if a death counts against you, the stats menu or whatever its called on the pause menu has a number that tracks people killed across the playthrough.
