If I am not mistaken once or twice people comment that "he wears the shield" as well, so unless I am mistaken they are referring to a shield with the grey warden symbol on it which is not uncommon for them. Either way it would just be additional to your example, that the game is basically assuming he is wearing his grey warden armor.

My first play through I missed so much! Watching as you try to keep the video time manageable for edits and not knowing how much you may have found or really missed is breaking my heart! And each of the romances, classes, and races have such varying playability. I would even wake up early or stay up late in Alaska to watch you do a live stream of DAI!! **edited** and clothing/hair mods to make your game play more enjoyable for you!! I'm sure many viewers were startled when you so accurately honed in on Blackwall's inconsistencies early on (and if I'm not mistaken, the mods had to delete some comments for episode 9 for insinuating that you were right on point), but he managed to slowly gained your trust over the course of the game. I really like what the writers did with this character. As to why everyone thinks that he's a Warden, Blackwall's default and standard armor designs have a Grey Warden griffon symbol on the chest, and his speech at Adamant refers to "the first time I put on this armor," implying that he is wearing armor that identifies him as a Warden. But DAI does not limit companions to a standard armor appearance as DA2 does. I feel there was a disconnect between story designs and gameplay designs.
