This album has altered my DNA. As a long time huge Mitski fan, it immediately jumped to my favorite project she’s put out. The production and lyricism is just other worldly. An absolutely incredible piece of work. I cannot recommend listening to her other albums enough, Mitski is such a talented artist with a good deal of genre’s present in her music but always very poignant and heart wrenching lyricism

She won't make Taylor's version for Lover, because the original plan was to re-record her first six albums, which are those whose original masters are owned by Big Machine Records, her first label, who refused to sell those masters to her (please someone more knowledgeable than me correct me on anything I'm saying), as a way to reclaim ownership on her older music. Her contract with Big Machine ended in 2018, after which she signed with her current label, and her latest album under the old label is Reputation. Lover was released under the new label, and she owns its masters 100%, so it wouldn't make sense to re-record it. Sorry for my very convoluted explanation, English is not my first language, and anyone please feel free to correct/add on anything i just wrote.

I'm so glad you finally got to experience Mitski! She's really something else and this album completely transported me. My favs are pretty much yours but I'd add I'm Your Man. I think she and Fiona Apple are some of the best lyricists out there, all their songs really hit hard. (I know you didn't enjoy Fetch the Bolt Cutters but I think When the Pawn would blow you away) I'd love to see you react to more of her work! I think you'd love it, although she does love a short song lol so that aspect might annoy you haha. I'd really like to see you react to any of Florence, Aurora, Marina, Charli XCX, Jessie Ware, Allie X, Sabrina Claudio, or Weyes Blood's most recent albums. "i'm your man" really grew on me, and there's an interview where Mitski said it's actually from the perspective of the patriarchy in her head, which i think is cool. alsooo, if you get into more Mitski, a LOT of her stuff has at least one interpretation/layer about her relationship to music itself (including "the deal"). she's talked about wanting to leave the public eye, stop making music as a "job" instead of as art, etc. as well as the tension there because she loves getting to make music.
