Tom's RPG Corner #2 : Even More Games!

Comments

Hi Tom, Not sure if you'll come back and check comments, but my 2 cents is Skeletons (with a big head) seems surreal and wacky enough to be a fun one shot, one episode type game. It looks fascinating! Having the Chaos idea that your are sort of losing power over the game and are yourself a playing a charecter could be terrific with all the people who've had their characters die repeatedly in other campaigns (like Ravs). Honestly, you make everything sound so intriguing, you could put all the ideas on raffle tickets, put them in a hat and just go with the one you pull out :)

Having Simon reprise his role of Simone Bunnydew in Fabula Ultima sounds ace.

Hi Tom! I've been looking for more OSR-style stuff recently and stumbled across 'Swyvers' - have you heard of it? The PCs play thieves in an alt-history late nineteeth century London-ish setting. It looks ace, and I know how much your players like to flex their cockney accents! There's a starter adventure in the book, though not a ton of other stuff for it right now, but could make a nice little one-shot? Anyway, love your work.

A game of Celtic, Gaulic, Germanic, Slavic, Scandinavian, Roman, Greek, etc. characters that need to work together to create a ritual to seal away a rising ancient Cthulhu mythos being sounds cool. I'm imagining it taking place during the time of Germanicus in the Teutoburg Forest. Dark, scary, and with Germanic tribes nailing people up in the trees. ---- Though also a story where the reason Emperor Caligula goes insane after being beloved by the people is because he is possessed by a Cthulhu being OR Caligula wasn't actually insane and he sends the group to investigate the possessed or replaced Senate that is spreading lies and wants him dead. The group then have to try and free Rome from this/these being's evil plan. ---- Also a medieval classic of infiltrating a secretly evil order of Knights and stopping them from using witchcraft and the like to summon something monstrous sounds like a fun one too. ----- Sorry about the text dump. Love the show by the way.

Great content as always, Tom! I have a few new items on the list now to burn more time learning... :P

I would like to suggest that if you want to use blades in the dark for a one shot one of the best things you can do is to pick an event. We will run a Christmas one shot my table and we will usually do blades in the dark. Crimesmas Has been very fun the last few years

Please play more Alien RPG!

I feel like Shadow Dark, Death Game, and Blades in The Dark (with a proper setup to make a one shot work) would all make for really great MQ content, as well as just highly enjoyable games for Tom and their players! I have been gobbling up the Mystery Quest content since discovering it at the beginning of the year and look forward to so much more to come!

Regarding other systems: We tried Expanse (AGE system) and liked it. It is another systems which lends itself well to a sustained campaign (in particular with a ship) but also works with one shots. I really like the setting, writing and Art of Dead Air, which is kind of an unofficial The Last of Us game. For a narrative focused game I'm not too hot on the system though: d6s but different types with different fail and success conditions (perhaps comparable to Alien). Not a big fan of those. I think it makes dice throws and reads unnecessary complex, in particular if you want to reduce dice admin. Much better IMHO to use a single die and target number for that.
