Kuvira’s finally beginning to settle down and let go of her pride, so that she can begin to see that she still has more to learn and others can still teach her things. People never stop learning, but the young often believe they know it all once they are the best in their age group or even if they are the best with those that are a few years older than themselves. It’s hard to see Experience having something to teach us when we believe that we are the first to do or experience something, despite the fact that the clear evidence that someone else had to have already done something similar if not exactly like before you already. lol I actually run into this a lot with my teenage niece and nephews. We adults can’t possibly know anything about anything because we’re OLD... I find it hilarious to be honest. Their parents and my parents not so much. As far the whole Su inner monologue she had before Kuvira called her for help. I thought that was really interesting actually. It really gave us a look into Su’s thoughts on what’s going on. Thus far we’ve only gotten just the words she’s said I believe along with the looks and physical appearance she has presented to give us a clue about what she’s been thinking. Here we really see that that first and foremost that Su really cares for Kuvira, by her inner worry for her. Though she doesn’t overtly say it, it seems like she hopes that Kuvira will give up and move on, more for Kuvira’s own well-being than anything else. It’s also clear by the head pats she gives her. Something Su had denied giving Kuvira overtly while she believed Kuvira was awake, thereby aware of the pats. Head pats was more than likely something Su had given Kuvira often when was a child, but had stopped when she had become a teenager. Su more than likely found it was inappropriate for her to continue doing it as Kuvira became older, but found it hard to stop in moments when Kuvira was at her most vulnerable, like a child. In a way this is telling about how Su still sees Kuvira partly as a child still and also WHY in Su’s internal monologue she ponders about Kuvira actually being able to find love after she ‘quits’ trying to become one of Su’s guards. Though now she no longer believes that Baatar Jr. would be a good match for Kuvira. Point blank, Su doesn’t really believe Kuvira LOVES her the why she thinks she loves her. To be honest I believe this is a common flaw in the way a lot of Adults (especially older adults) think about teenagers and young adults when they talk about love. “They can’t possibly know what love truly is yet.” Or “Their too young to truly understand the meaning of Love!” Or “It will pass, as all young love does.” and so many more. It’s truly endless the crap that other adults will say to teens and young adults when they talk about their love lives. I truly hate this facet of adults. Though Adulthood does come with a lot of experience simply because as you grow older you live life and gain that experience and the more you do the more experience you gain. But love... everyone’s begins from ground zero with each new person they fall in love with. No matter how many times it happens, it’s new and different for each individual. To think that the young can’t know or understand love just because they are young is just plain arrogance. It also can lead to making people less willing to believe a relationship can work because they can’t trust their own feelings. In Su’s case, she has come to believe that Kuvira can’t truly love her in a way other than immense admiration and not in a Romantic way. It’s the only way she can move forward and not have to think about Kuvira as anything more than the Child she remembers or have her life disrupted any more. This allows her to believe that Kuvira just needs to FIND love still, though not with Bastar Jr., which could be for a couple of reasons some of which she has not been willing to closely examine yet. 1) Is exactly what Su had said in her internal monologue: Baatar Jr. just would not be able to handle Kuvira. This is a fact and Su is becoming more aware of this fact because she is unwillingly becoming aware of the woman Kuvira has grown up to become. Especially now that her “Mental Age’ (for lack of a better term) is beginning to catch up to her actual ‘Physical Age’, which is important for the things that have not been closely examined. It’s possible that she just can’t help but have them in the back of her subconscious. 2) Having Kuvira involved with Baatar Jr. would put her extremely close to Su all the time. (We have to remember that Su believes that at some point Kuvira will quit and therefore won’t be so close to her, even as a Guard, though that wouldn’t be directly in her family quarters.) Though I doubt if this is true Su is even aware of why she would be so concerned with having Kuvira so close to her more often than she is now. 3) Despite the fact that she says she hopes that she finds someone to fall in love with, if she did fall in love with Baatar Jr. that would kind of slap Su in the face with the fact that she had been right in her belief that Kuvira really didn’t love her and she would have to look at that fact up close every single day. Again this is not something Su is consciously thinking about, but it’s most likely there in her subconscious lurking in a way she hasn’t even really considered. 4) All of the above is ruled by the subconscious feelings of love that Su has for Kuvira. We know that Su loves Kuvira, but thus far Su has only attributed those feelings of love for Kuvira as something Maternal in nature and the actions Kuvira took on her birthday subconsciously could have begun to change those feelings. Forcing her to begin seeing Kuvira as an actual Woman grown instead of the child she had always thought of her as. Anyway this is all food for thought. This is my own analysis of the story so far and this chapter in particular. I could be way off on everything, so please note that these are all my own opinions and is not actually what the author intended in the story. Take care and be safe everyone!!
