- I'm going to use this post to also mention this, so first, really quickly and to get it out of the way, Patreon is putting in a sales tax on pledges in some countries starting July 1st. Some of the things I provide in my tiers like the digital goods, for example, are subject to this, so starting with July, patrons that are in those countries will get charged a little extra per pledge (most likely a couple of cents) to account for the tax. More info here.
- You have probably known about this by now, since I'm pretty sure Patreon sent emails to patrons about it, which is also why I haven't mentioned it until now, but since this is the last week in the month before, I thought I should at least put this in here as a reminder or quick announcement in case you haven't heard about it.
- Anyway, on to more interesting things, an update on this hair model :D
- Quite a bit of work went into this since last you saw it, quite a lot actually. Like the last WIP, ignore head & hair misalignment/fit, that headmesh is only for a prettier preview, not what I'm using to model.
- This is using a diffuse/color texture this time. Previously I was just using a basic color and some AO. For now, I made a quick diffuse texture with some darker roots and a bit of a gradient/ highlights to see how this would look in a more "final" state. It's not too bad, I might use this for FO4 with some tweaks.
- Modeled ponytail and reshaped it, increased level of detail in most areas in the hairstyle especially in the front of the head. I don't remember what I was at in the last WIP post, but I'm pretty sure that the polycount more than doubled again since the last time.
- Speaking of that, the polycount is a bit ... out of control. I kinda kept stacking layers and I haven't really payed much attention and/or cared for it while I was making this, so this is currently sitting at 53k tris. This is not extreme especially since I'm going for future proofing, but considering I still want to add flyaways and some smaller strands which are easily going to add another 10k+, I might need to go back and optimize this mesh a bit and cut down some stuff.
- Some of the upper strands from the ponytail are already suffering from this, where I left them a bit blocky for now. I also wanted a bit more twisted strands in the ponytail, but those are really damn expensive. Just one twisted chunk that doesn't look like crap in a closeup can easily add 1k tris, so I had to cut back on those too unfortunately.
- Overally, I'd say this is at 85%-90% completion. This is probably the last WIP post that this model will get, next time should be the completed thing.
