Oh So Hero! Dev Preview #44

This development preview will give you a look into new features coming to Oh So Hero!

The game's two directors, Ket & Red, comprise the programming and art/animation sides, respectively.

Here are their updates!

Ket's Update:

Hi everyone! We hope you are doing well~

Thank you for your patience with the development of Oh So Hero! We came back stronger with the v1.06 build after the mistake with the v1.05 build. We fixed the blocking bug, but more importantly, we improved the QA process to ensure future releases are stable and without critical issues.

The v1.06 build had a couple new things for you as well: Red created updated Daku & Joe animations with more detail and new segments! The old animations were also made available along with the new animations in the Gallery. We even have a simple Gallery Filter feature now! This filters by specific animation, though categorical filters will arrive in the future.

Our next build, v1.07 (scheduled for October 31st), will be our biggest update since the launch of Act 1! We've finally reached the conclusion of our work on the Voyeur system, which is currently undergoing finishing touches.

Thanks to Red & Arty for the voyeur animations, and thanks to Koyyle for writing the code~

Meanwhile, I spent a good deal of time making improvements and fixes to the Gallery. You'll have a full list of changes when the v1.07 build is released, but here's a first look at my Gallery UI work (before and after for each screen). You can't tell from the screenshots, but the selected item's background color oscillates between violet and black on both the entity and animation screens. I generally feel the UI should always have a bit of animation to let the player know what's selected or what input is expected.

Next on the list, Red’s finishing up the updated Amaru & Joe animations now! (He’ll fill you in on that further below~)

We also have the localization code 99% complete and will begin contacting people for hiring in November (we had to push it out further on the calendar).

Beyond all that, we have one additional feature we are planning to add to Act 1 (tentative; details coming in a future update). Afterwards, we will do final fixes and cleanup. That's when we'll wrap development on Act 1 and finally begin planning Act 2!

The amaru animations are a huge step up in my opinion. Can't wait for these to get implemented. Hopefully we can get a roadmap update by the end of the year

I'm not gonna lie, Joe's gut swelling up like that is always one of my favorite aspects of the older animation and I'm glad it stayed in the new one
