I feel like Inoue putting her hand on the crumpled bag of chips as she spoke was symbolism alluding back to, first, her own crushed emotions when she confronted Nao with her feelings for him way back when—both her crush itself, and the feeling of being crushed by his blatant rejection. When Souta picked up the bag to throw it out, the "crushed" feelings of his situation then transferred back to him. Of course, this is what happens when you're an English major, sooo I could be very very off. 😅

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when he hated Nao initially it was from this sense that Nao hated him and was looking down on him. He’s always had this inferiority complex related to Nao.

Even when I finally talked to her, after 2 years of my pining, and 6 months of her treating me differently, she said that she didn't like me that way and just loved me platonically. 6 months later we were together. And now we've been together for almost 18 months. (We lived together the whole time so really feels more like we've been together almost 4 years) It's not likely things will work out, but it's possible.

Part of me is also kind of hoping that they have a good talk/have catharsis and the result is them waiting/being flirty friends until Nao is more centered/his happiness doesn't all depend on Souta. Souta has done so much for him to grow and branch out, but also almost everything comes back to Souta. Nao is definitely almost there but I feel like their relationship will be stronger and healthier when Nao feels emotionally secure and not like he'd fall into as dark a place as in the past if their relationship were to end (though obvi it'll never end and they'll be cute forever because otherwise I can't).

Even if she’s right, it doesn’t really take away the fact that Nao already turned him down and he’s heartbroken. At the end of the day, Souta was right to protect his feelings and avoid any false hopes. The ball’s in Nao’s court and if there’s any chance of clearing things up, it has to come from him. Let’s just hope he figures out his words before he gets to see Souta again.

To already be so hurt and then go looking again just to risk getting hurt worse when it’s confirmed a possible second time- ooof. (of course we as the viewers know the truth xD they are meant to be~) but Souta has no idea and has been sooo considerate of Nao that I truly hope he doesn’t have to go digging for Nao to elaborate.
