2025-09-16 02:05:18 +0000 UTCI’m struggling to put to words that this kind of direct violence feels like an inevitable result of systemic decay. It is crushing to see people desperately lashing out as all the systems that keep the world running increasingly fail to do anything more than grind up more meat.

2025-09-15 14:59:07 +0000 UTCI also think the media and education system have really hurt us here. Our education system doesn't really teach people how to think critically, draw connections, or do real research. Our mainstream media has put forth "debate" through panel shows, crossfire, and other formats that elevate "civil" appearance over actual ideas. There are a lot of people who think things like Jubilee promote open and good faith discussion, and for them the Charlie Kirk clips seem like honest engagement. It also doesn't help that people who distrust the mainstream media for editing clips disingenuously don't seem to realize that Turning Point also edited all their clips for similar reasons. Basically, we're in an intellectually impoverished society where people don't want to actually do the thinking necessary for real self-government while also being distrustful of anything tied to an institution. I don't want to be a boomerang, but I also can't think of anyway to fix our current problems without a major social overhaul.

2025-09-14 12:25:13 +0000 UTCAs to whether people really know who Charlie Kirk was, I did have a conversation with someone who thought he was a good faith debate. I pointed her to some of his statements about the Great Replacement and Cultural Marxism with links and tried to point out that we should be honest about who he was even if we don't condone what happened. I'm in a purple area and the person I was talking to had only seen clips of Kirk on campus and had never heard of the Great Replacement. There are probably a lot of non-MAGAs that only know Kirk through clips on Facebook or TikTok that would actually be opposed to things he says on his show.
